NEWS OUT OF AFRICA – Gaming/Tech

Meet Kevin Omyonga

Kevin Omyonga is a Kenyan-based mobile and web application developer who has made a recent foray into the game developing scene.

After the lockdowns of 2020 and Omyonga found himself with a lot of time on his hands and saw an opportunity to start developing a game, a project he had been dreaming of pursuing for a long time. So, Omyonga took to the internet and watched numerous YouTube tutorials and the result was two mobile games, KINGA and Dhoruba.

Kevin’s KINGA and DHORUBA

Dhoruba and KINGA are the names of two 2D, mobile games developed by Kevin Omyonga.

The first game, KINGA is about protecting a cookie from flies. The game was initially about protecting a healthy cell from the Corona Virus but was unfortunately rejected by Apple for being an attempt to profit from the pandemic.

But that did not deter Omyonga, who took the setback in stride and used all that he had learned from KINGA to create his second game, Dhoruba.

Dhoruba, which is Swahili for storm, is a game in which you help a character named Vex, dodge falling obstacles and rise as high as possible above the storm in order to get a high score.

Although quite basic, Omyonga considered his games as good starting points and hopes that with time, he will gain more experience and a better footing within the industry.

Dhoruba and KINGA are available to play on iOS and Android.
