This week on Monday, 8 March 2021, a number of viewers tuned onto HBO Max prepared to watch the brand new Tom and Jerry film.
But instead of being greeted with images of the iconic and much loved characters, they were met with footage from a movie that looked nothing like Tom and Jerry and a lot like Zack Snyder’s upcoming Justice League film.
What resulted were several Tweets where users reported having seen footage from the Justice League Snyder Cut, which is only scheduled to release on the 18th of March this year.
WarnerMedia recently confirmed the leakage to be true, stating that “Zack Snyder’s Justice League was temporarily available on HBO Max and the error was addressed within minutes.” Even though roughly an hour of the Justice League film was made accessible before it was removed.
The leaked footage of Snyder’s Justice League will no doubt reflect poorly on Warner Bros. especially in the wake of past controversy with Snyder himself when they suggested releasing a rough cut of his four hour film.
It also casts their streaming service, HBO Max, in a poor light and calls into question HBO Max’s professionalism and thoroughness.
The reason for the leak still remains unknown but viewers can only hope that such an incident is not repeated again and with other streaming platforms.
The leak of the Snyder Cut has made it clear that streaming platforms worldwide should be on the lookout for such errors and ensure that they are more thorough when it comes to providing their services.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League is scheduled to air on Thursday, 18th March on HBO Max.
