Deirdré Jantjies’s Stories in Die Wind
Seeing a great opportunity to represent and celebrate her Indigenous heritage, film maker, Deirdré Jantjies turned what was supposed to be a theatre production into an animated web series.
The series has been well received internationally, having played at the Wairoa Maori International Film Festival in June 2021.
Titled, Stories in die Wind (Stories in the Wind), the show follows the story of a young Nama girl born with a gift to communicate with nature and who is on a path to discover her destiny.
Stories in Die Wind Educates Audiences on the Nama Peoples
Jantjies has used this series to preserve and educate people on the traditional culture of the Nama Peoples within South Africa. The story is narrated in Afrikaans and makes use of Nama subtitles, a conscious decision made to ensure people engage with the Indigenous language.

NEWS BEYOND AFRICA – Gaming/Entertainment
A Sort of Sneak Peak At Marvel’s Secret Invasion
Disney + Day, held on Friday, 12 November, 2021 saw the announcement of several exciting new upcoming series from Marvel, including an X-Men ’97 reboot and the Ms. Marvel series. Also on the line up was a sort of sneak peak at the series Secret Invasion.
Marvel Studios treated audiences with a mysterious image of a clearly aged, Nick Fury without his signature eye patch.
Starring Samuel L. Jackson, Secret Invasion will see him reprise his roles as Nick Fury alongside Ben Mendelsohn’s, Talos.
Not much else has been revealed about the upcoming series. But, seeing as the series takes its name from the similarly titled 2008 Marvel Comic Book, in which the Skrull invade the earth and take on the guise of well-known heroes, viewers could expect a similar plot.
Production began in September, 2021 however; no release date has been set yet.
