African Animations Feature At Annecy 2021

Lauded as one of the leading animation studios within Africa, Ghanaian outfit Animax FYB Studios have proved their worthy at the Annecy Animation Film Festival 2021.

An annual international film festival, Annecy Animation Film Festival showcasing high end films from across the world. The renowned event was held in France in June, 2021.

During a year that saw a number of African films spotlighted, Animax FYB’s animated film Room 5 made the cut by being nominated in the Perspectives short film category.

A dark comedy, Room 5, explores the treatment of hospital patients in Ghana and African nations.

When Koo Kumi visits a hospital seeking medical treatment he is directed to Room 5 to meet the nurse, Sugar. But it appears that appears that this mysterious nurse may have dark intentions for this patient.

Know About the Africa Games CoProduction Market?

Germany- based accelerator programme SpielFabrique has launched a brand new initiative called the Africa Games CoProduction Market.  The new project sets out to nurture collaboration between African and European Indie Game Studios.

Selections for the African studios were held in early November, 2021 and 9 African game development studios have since been selected as part of the new programme.

And the Lucky Selected Are…

Listed below are the selected studios along with their game titles:

Kayfo Game Studio (Senegal)– Awa

SpaceSalad Studios (South Africa) – Doba Dash

Leti Arts (Ghana) – Karmzah Run

Kunta Content (Kenya) – Hiru

Kiro’o Games (Cameroon) – Responsable Mboa

Weza Interactive Entertainment (Kenya) – Riziki

Selected out of 46 other application, these 9 projects impressed the judges with their quality and ingenuity.

Animator Pedro Conti, Processes Losing Close Friends to COVID-19

Brazillian animator, Pedro Conti, experienced the same loneliness and fear many did during the COVID-19 pandemic.

After losing very close friends to the virus, Conti took to animation to process his emotions, and Tamo Junto was the end product.

We’re In This Together With Tamo Junto

Tamo Junto (Together) is a 6 -minute short film that follows the story of a young man who helps his elderly neighbour during the COVID pandemic.

Utilising 3D/CG and 2D animation, the film transports audiences to urban Brazil and poignantly explores the fear of loss that many faced during the perilous time. However, it  also reminds simultaneously reminds us of the importance of extending love and kindness during hard times.
