Highlights of CTIAF 2021: Triggerfish and E4D Partner Up!
Held from the 1st to the 3rd of October, 2021 on site and online at the Old Biscuit Mill, Woodstock, Cape Town, this year’s Cape Town International Animation Festival (CTIAF) was a big event.
For its 9th Edition, CTIAF partnered with streaming giant Netflix, welcomed Award Winning Director, Peter Ramsey (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse) as a speaker and celebrated women transforming the animation industry. All the while, a light was shone on talented African creatives as opportunities for knowledge sharing and connecting were created.
Some highlights include Triggerfish Animation Studio’s partnership with E4D, a German-funded Employment for Skills and Development in Africa Program.
The 3 year partnership plans to expose 10,000 school leavers to the animation industry, equip 6,000 creatives with portfolios and market access and create 200 more jobs in the South African animation sector.
Another highlight was the announcement of Triggerfish’s 10- second animation competition.
Triggerfish’s 10-Second Animation Competition
Open to South Africans between 18 and 35 years old, entries for the 10-second competition will be open until midnight November 14, 2021.
Participants will be tasked with showing off their skills and originality by creating a 10-second, character-driven animation clip based on a 10-second audio clip.

Winners stand the chance of winning a Wacom One graphics tablet and 30 minute, one-on-one session with Head of Production at Triggerfish Animation Studio, Mike Buckland.
Kunta Content Introduce Hiru
Created from the Africa Game Development Program in November 2020, Kunta Content is a brand new company that has stepped onto the scene Kenyan gaming scene.
Their aim is to create content for television, animation, film and games but in the meantime, they have already announced their first endeavour, HIRU.
HIRU
A video game for both PC and console, HIRU follows the story of the young son of a Maasai king who must embark on a quest to avenge and redeem his family. All the while he seeks to protect Maasai ancestral lands from environmental devastation.
The project has actually been in the work for 7 years but has only come to the light now as the African Game Development Programme brought it the ability, tools and talent to get it going.

Kunta Content intends to release the first episode of the game in 2022, on PC and console.

DC FanDome 2021 Reveal First Look at Dwayne’s Johnson’s Black Adam
Amongst a list of comics, animations and movies revealed at this year’s DC FanDome event that, also revealed was the opening scenes for the upcoming DC film, Black Adam.
The footage had the audience witness explorers uncover an underground cave and the supposed resting place of non other than, Black Adam.
The film, which has been in the works since 2007, will see Dwayne Johnson playing the role of the anti-hero Black Adam.
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, the film will introduce fans to the Justice Society of America and star Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman and Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher.
