Kay Media Private Limited in partnership with Reprezent UK , Comexposed, Khura agency, and Page Poetry Alive, invites participants of the Scripts and Bars project in Zimbabwe and the UK to apply for a grant for digital content creation projects.
Made possible with support from the British Council and the Swiss agency for development and cooperation (SDC), the Grant is aimed at supporting individuals or collectives within Zimbabwe and the UK with content creation while enhancing their art making and supporting livelihoods and job creation.
The call for applications is now open and will close on 23 March 2022.
Overview
The Scripts and Bars Grant is an initiative that aims to stimulate the Zimbabwe and UK creatives in digital content creation and developing and growing skills that lead to more professional opportunities. It offers financial support in the form of a grant. The grant will support projects across the Music and Literature sectors including photography, videography, fashion, poetry, digital art, animation etc. Eligible countries are Zimbabwe and the UK.
Priority Projects:
The Scripts and Bars Fund supports individuals or collectives that:
- Produce quality and inclusive digital content in music and literature (literature also covers film, podcasts, blogging, animation, comic books)
- Contribute to new narratives and have access to new markets
- Demonstrate a high-level enterprise as well as technical skill and capacity
- Demonstrate ability to create and produce high quality digital content creation
Example projects
The grant can be used to fund projects such as
- Music recording projects (Album, EP, Singles for commercial release)
- Music videos
- Podcast series
- Digital publication (online magazine, eBooks, Graphic novels)
- Virtual Galleries
- Short film/video
Key Information
Eligible individuals or groups in Zimbabwe and UK can apply for the following available grant of $3,300 (USD).
- To be eligible for financial support, applicants must have been a participant in the Scripts and Bars Project, attended and completed all prerequisite activities and forms
- Must be active in the music and literature creative sectors within their local country,
- The individual must have a proven history of operating in the creative sector in Zimbabwe, Southern Africa or the UK.
- The individual must have been active in the creative field for at least one year on the day of application.
- The individual must be operating in any of the following eligible countries:
- Zimbabwe
- UK
- Similarly, the planned action must take place in the eligible countries only.
- An individual can partner or collaborate with other individuals, collectives or organisations who have not taken part in the Scripts and Bars project as long as the lead applicant is a Scripts and Bars participant

- Fill in all required application documents and collect all required supporting documents.
- The call for proposals closes at mid-night on 23 March 2022. No late submissions will be accepted.
- The results of the adjudication will be published within 7 days (7) working days after closing date.
- All successful applicants shall be notified in writing prior to the results being publicised.
- Unsuccessful applicants shall be notified via email. Individualized feedback for unsuccessful applications will NOT be provided. Once communication has been sent to unsuccessful applicants, no further correspondence will be entered into by the Scripts and Bars team or any of the project partners.
Evaluation Process and Criteria
Grant Evaluation Committee
Applications will be adjudicated and awarded by the Scripts and Bars Committee. The evaluation committee will be comprised of representatives from the Scripts and Bars creative Hubs as follows.

Preliminary & eligibility review
- This is a preliminary review where all eligible projects are prepared for evaluation at project team level.
- All ineligible applications are also identified and automatically disqualified. It is important that you read the guidelines carefully and supply all the required documents in your application.
Evaluation Criteria and Guidelines
- Eligible applications are submitted to the evaluation committee and scored against the criteria outlined in the guidelines. The committee also receives all copies of ineligible applications for verification.A scoring mechanism shall be used to inform the selection process. Broadly, this process will consider the following:
- Quality and relevance of the solution with reference to the objectives outlined in the call for proposals, as well as the challenges identified in your proposal.
- Sustainability of the proposed action.
- Potential reach and impact.
- Presentation, logic and clarity of the proposal.
- Cost, value and financial model
- Consideration will also include aspects of innovation, originality, and inclusiveness e.g., with regards to underrepresented groups (people with disabilities/women).
Disqualification
The following will lead to automatic disqualification:
- Applicants who do not meet the eligibility criteria as stated in these guidelines.
- Projects that will be implemented outside the eligible countries as specified in these guidelines.
- Provision of dishonest and inaccurate information.
- Incomplete submission of Application Forms, Proposal and/or compliance documentation.
- Submission of applications that do not adhere to the format and guidelines established.
- Late submission of any and all documentation.
- Applications sent directly via email and not through the application submission online form.
